8 Inch Chef's Knife
Client: Perlingstone, Australia
Perlingstone is a brand that strives for excellence. The knife that the founder and I developed had to express the brand values. It turned into a product that is praised by its end users.
The end result, the Momentum 8 Inch Chef's Knife, is available via
perlingstone.com.
From initial drawings to 3D files, I helped design the knife and shape the packaging. The client had clear ideas and input that I translated into different designs, realistic images and ultimately files for production.
The final knife blade is made of high-quality AUS10 Japanese damast steel.
The handle has beautiful desert ironwood, wrapped around a steel core for perfect weight and balance. Mosaic rivets are used to connect and decorate the wood and steel harmoniously.
The knife was tested and optimized in collaboration with a Japanese top chef.
The handle allows different grip types for an optimal cutting experience.
The packaging has a book-like cover with a reusable cork inlay that presents the knife nicely. Underneath the cork inlay, there is a layered cardboard inlay with accessories that come with the knife. One of the accessories is a collector's coin that I helped design.
The knife blade is extremely sharp for use by professionals and cooking enthusiasts. It comes with a sheath that I helped develop to protect users and others from the knife when it's not in use.
The product won Gold at the International Design Awards 2023 in the category Home / Kitchen: Accessories/Tabletop.
At the European Product Design Award 2023, it got awarded:
• Top Design in the category Hobby & Sports: Cooking & Baking.
• Winner in Home (Household Products)/Kitchen.
