Public Speaker at EGG2012+ Conference in Berlin, Germany

Conference organized by Fraunhofer IZM & TU Berlin

At the Electronics Goes Green 2012+ conference, I presented the article "Rethinking Eco-design Priorities; the case of the Econova television". The publication challenges an eco-design guideline that stated that the use phase of frequently used electric and electronc products is the most impactful phase in the product lifecycle. With a trend towards more energy-efficient devices and shorter lifespans, the dominant impact shifts to the materials and production phase. The article is available online.

In the article, research and design work that I did at Philips Innovative Applications in Bruges, Belgium, is presented. The research and design work at Philips were part of my graduation project for the master's program in Integrated Product Design at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft).

The images displayed here show the television concept design that I developed, which is presented in the paper as well. Eco-design strategies were used for a result with a lower than usual environmental impact.

The tv has an an organically shaped back plate. Its shape was optimized for minimal materials usage through the bi-directional evolutionary structural optimization method (BESO).
